The Rugby Section have just returned from their annual pilgrimage to the Overgaard Phuket International Rugby 10s competition where a 35 strong touring squad took part in both the Coffin Dodgers and Open competitions. The Tourists ranged from 17 to 50+ with a number of birthdays and two 'last tours' from Frenchie and Slacky being celebrated with gusto on the 'rest' nights!

The old fella's featured a number of strong comeback players including ex-President Steve Wilson BAV, Stevie McWhirter BAV and Singapore star Ridzal Saat alongside the stalwarts of Bedok touring legends. Despite a stiff start on the Friday Bedok reached the final of the Bowl competition against a much younger Darwin Gray Hairs team. After a hard fought game, the Darwin side lifted the Bowl in a 17-10 victory over Bedok.

The Open team also featured a number of new tourists who performed with gusto both on and off the park. Despite a very high standard of Rugby, the young Bedok team, supported by a bit of experience from the old boys qualified for the Cup competition on the Sunday. The 8 am start in blistering heat took it's toll on what was to be a tortuous day of rugby. Firstly losing to the Morrabbin Rams (eventual cup runners up) and then taking on and beating the Pot Bellied Pigs (7th seed) before being knocked out by 4th Seeds Wanderers A (Plate Runners up)

All results can be found on http://www.phuketrugby10s.com/2010.htm
Off the park, the 'Rambo Kings' definitively won the battle of the dance floor at the Tai Pai and set the town alight with their subdued touring outfits. Many thanks to the superb sponsors who made us the best dressed touring team on and off the park! Thanks to Lee Sanders- PVT (AAM Advisory), Allen McConnell - BAV (Harris Pye) and 6 Drunk Men

In addition to this the Touring party and individual sponsors from Bedok raised 67,000 Baht for the Asia Centre Foundation which will provide scholarships for 5 kids and a significant sum to help administer and support the organisation! This is a great contribution to the 400K + raised during the course of the weekend.
Should any of you be interested in supporting this work further, any additional help will always be appreciated - check out www.asiacentrefoundation.org
Once again many thanks to all the Tourists, Supporters, Sponsors, Dan and Mark for their Cameo performances and of course Dr Bob for making this a great tour.
Next tour should be to Cambodia in Oct / Nov 2010 and then the 13th Overgaard Phuket International Rugby 10s on May 27th - 29th 2011
It's good to be a King . . . but it's great to be a King on tour!!
Have fun
